Recommended Lawrence of Arabia Itinerary (7 days)

This tour encapsulate the best of the battlefields associates with Lawrence of Arabia, the Palestine campaign and World War 1 in Jordan.  If time is of the essence, this trip is for you. You will hit all the highlights and the “must see” around Jordan.

  • Day 1 – After your arrival in Jordan, we begin the next day with a visit of the Hejaz Railway Station in Amman, the strategic “Ten Arches Bridge” and the Royal Tank Museum. We will accompany you downtown Amman to see the Roman site and experience some of the traditional shops and restaurants. You will spend the night in one of Amman’s best 5 star hotels.

  • Day 2 – We will visit the Ottoman War Cemetery in Salt, as well as the key sites of the April 1918 British offensive on Amman, including a massive trench system overlooking the Jordan valley. You will discover battlefields of the 60th (London) Division and the Australian Mounted Division. Incredible views of the battlefield, supported by tactical maps will help you understand the context of the offensive.

  • Day 3 – We begin our trek south, with the Abu Lissan battle site, where Lawrence destroyed a significant Ottoman force., opening the way to Aqaba. Further south, we will explore key defensive positions and an impressive network of trenches around Aqaba. We end with a tour of the Aqaba Fort, at the Arab Revolt Plaza as we explain the fall of the small city. A stunning hotel awaits you at the end of the day, right on the Aqaba Gulf, with a private beach.

  • Day 4 – As we move in to the magical Wadi Rum desert we will explore an old RAF airfield, Lawrence’s HQ and other relevant sites within Wadi Rum. We will learn about mobile desert warfare and irregular operations and discuss similarities with today’s Special Ops Forces. We will take you to some of the filming sites of the 1962 epic film. The evening takes us to the best Bedouin camp in Wadi Rum for a relaxing evening meal with an enchanting host.

  • Day 5 – This day is focused on touring the Hejaz railway, abandoned stations and forts, as well as complex defensive positions and Ottoman trench networks. The sites are set in a remote and majestic eerie landscape. We will also visit the strategic railway station of Ma’an as well as the complex defensive system around the city. We end the day in Wadi Musa (Petra) at one of the best hotels.

  • Day 6 –  Taking a break from World War 1, we will tour the incredible site of Petra and lead you on off the beaten track, on curated hikes. Our team is extremely familiar with Petra and we will guide you to the best viewpoints and provide context on the Nabatean Kingdom.

  • Day 7 –  The final day will focus on a scenic drive taking us from Petra to the Dead sea and followed by a relaxing day at the Dead sea, with optional guided hikes in the magical Dead Sea wadis. We offer the option of “wet” or “dry” hikes.
